Acer’s Butterfly Experience at CES
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is one of the biggest tech events in the world, where companies compete to show off their latest innovations. Acer wanted to make a big impact on VIP guests by offering something different — a relaxing, interactive experience in the middle of the fast-paced show.
Acer partnered with MC² and Applied Art & Technology to create an immersive rainforest-like space. The lounge featured a moss-covered wall with stunning LED visuals with digital butterflies reacting to visitors’ movements. This peaceful, high-tech experience highlighted Acer’s creativity and left a lasting impression.

Challenge
Acer wanted to:
- Stand out at CES with a unique, memorable experience.
- Create a space that showcased their creativity and leadership in technology.
- Impress their VIP guests with something engaging and immersive.
- Working with MC², we helped design the event layout, including a moss wall. We also collaborated with AV Dimensions, a trusted hardware vendor, to ensure the technology would support the interactive experience.
Solution
This project required teamwork across different areas of expertise.
- Understanding the Vision: Our team worked closely with MC² to bring Acer’s idea to life, ensuring the hardware and creative elements worked together.
- Bringing the Rainforest to Life: Our visual experts designed a rainforest experience that included wind, rain, sunlight, complete with lifelike butterflies and other rainforest insects that moved naturally.
- Interactive Technology: Our tech specialists used depth-sensing cameras to track visitors’ movement, triggering the butterflies to react with guests' movement in the space.
- Perfect Execution: We carefully tested every element to ensure the experience ran smoothly from start to finish.
Results
The experience exceeded their expectations of MC² and Acer. VIP guests were amazed by the interactive rainforest, and Acer’s presence at CES stood out in a unique way.
Key Learnings
- Technology Transforms Spaces: Interactive elements can make a space more engaging and memorable.
- Experiences vs. Activities: At CES, most brands offered fleeting activities — quick interactions that visitors moved through and forgot. But Acer’s space was an experience — engaging, immersive, and memorable. Acer’s rainforest-inspired space wasn’t just a booth; it was an environment where technology and nature blended, and butterflies responded in real-time. Visitors didn’t just see innovation — they felt it. And that made all the difference.
- Realism Matters: Adding movement and natural elements makes digital environments feel more lifelike and captivating.
This project showed the power of blending technology, creativity, and strategic planning can create an unforgettable experience.
